Applicants on Prospective Producer List

Dear Applicant,

UPDATE ON STATUS OF NEW PRODUCER PROGRAM

This is a follow up to the letter sent on December 23, 2020, which advised potential producers that the BC Broiler Hatching Egg Commission (the Commission) believes that the New Producer Program (NPP) requires a thorough examination and renewal to reflect developments in the sector. The December 23, 2020 letter informed potential producers that while conducting this review, the Commission is considering freezing the program subject to prior approval from the BC Farm Industry Review Board (BCFIRB).

The Commission wrote BCFIRB on December 23, 2020, cc'd to prospective producers, requesting prior approval. BCFIRB responded in the attached January 18, 2021 letter, stating that:
‘In BCFIRB’s view, prior approval of the NPP temporary suspension is not required. BCFIRB does, however, expect the Commission to use its best efforts to conclude the NPP review before the end of 2021.’

On January 21, 2021, the Commission confirmed the temporary suspension of the current program and the freezing of current applicants on the Prospective Producer List. The NPP review will be included in the quota tools assessment review scheduled in the spring of 2021. Commission staff will post updates to the Commission website and share information on the evaluation pertaining to potential producers as the review advances.

It is incumbent upon all Applicants to have their current contact details, including email address, on file with the Commission.

Please contact me directly with any questions or concerns.

Regards,

Stephanie Nelson
